A Chinese machinery manufacturer entrusted us to ship 3 units of oversized industrial presses from Shanghai to Los Angeles. The industrial presses were classified as out of gauge goods, with each unit measuring 8.2m in length, 3.1m in width and 3.5m in height, and weighing 18 tons—exceeding standard container limits. To meet these requirements, we designed a fully customized oversized cargo logistics solution. First, we selected 40ft flat rack containers to fit the presses’ overwidth and overheight dimensions. Flat rack containers have no sidewalls or roof, allowing safe loading via crane. We then implemented a rigorous fixation plan: using high-strength steel straps, anti-slip wood wedges and shock-absorbing pads to secure each press to the container base, effectively reducing vibration during ocean transit and protecting the equipment’s precision components. Our team also arranged on-site supervision during loading at the Shanghai factory to ensure all fixation standards were strictly followed.
For shipping, we leveraged our long-term partnership with MATSON to reserve priority space on the CLX express ocean route, ensuring oversized cargo could sail on schedule even during peak seasons. For customs clearance, our US-licensed customs team prepared detailed documents in advance, including cargo dimension drawings, weight certificates and equipment usage instructions, to meet CBP’s strict requirements for oversized cargo and minimize inspection risks.
The cargo completed US customs clearance with zero delays, achieving an inspection rate of only 1.2%—well below our average 3% inspection rate. Upon arrival at the Port of Long Beach, we coordinated a professional low-bed trailer with a crane for on-site unloading, as standard trucks cannot carry oversized and overweight cargo. Our local Los Angeles team supervised the unloading process and arranged door-to-door delivery directly to the client’s factory.
